The 2022 Integrative Healthcare Symposium Preconference
We’ve all felt the stress of the past year, and patients are more ready than ever to address it. As clinicians, we need to understand how our patients’ stress is uniquely affecting their health and help them to create and implement a personalized plan to manage it. In this preconference we’ll go beyond the HPA axis to discuss stress in the context of immune health and draw connections to the gut-brain axis. This will help you recognize the nuances in identifying and caring for patients’ individual needs and provide protocol templates you can utilize at your next appointment.
February 16, 2022, 8:15 AM-5 PM New York Hilton Midtown, NY Fees: $150 for preconference or $75 with purchase of standard conference pass
A healthy gut via detoxification helps to eliminate toxins before they can be transported to the liver. Unfortunately, unhealthy intestinal function prevents effective detoxification. As shown in this infographic, ingested toxins and toxins formed as metabolic byproducts of an unhealthy microbiota can leak through a weakened intestine and are transported to the liver. This can result in systemic accumulation and recirculation of metabolic toxins and contribute to chronic adverse health conditions.
A growing body of literature suggests an association between toxicant exposure and the etiology of a number of chronic conditions. Optimizing the body’s ability to manage and excrete toxins is essential for health. The Detoxification and Health Research Review explores toxin classes, their health impact, and how low-allergy-potential, targeted nutrition can support balanced detoxification and health throughout life.
Environmental pollution and toxins have the potential to greatly impact human health. These toxic loads can cause inflammatory and autoimmune responses. One way our bodies are equipped to handle biological/biochemical challenges is Nrf-2 transcriptional factor, which is involved in the regulation of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and other properties. In this blog post, Anu Desai, PhD shares how the NRF2/KEAP1 pathway acts as a key cellular defense mechanism, providing protection against environmental challenges.
In this discussion, Deanna Minich, PhD and Tricia Paulson, ND discuss the nuts and bolts of detoxification or “detox” and explore practical tips for practitioners in structuring a successful group detoxification program for their patients. While negative perceptions and misinformation about the word “detox” exist, Dr. Paulson explains that detox is simply a “physiological process of taking toxins in the environment, of which there are an abundance, and trying to eliminate them from the body in a very safe and healthy way, so you are minimizing your overall toxic load.”
