Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators Supplementation in Adults with Obesity
Patients with obesity suffer from chronic, low-grade inflammation, partly due to dysfunctions in the ability to endogenously create specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs). For decades we assumed inflammation gradually faded away after being activated; we now know this resolution phase of the inflammatory cycle is carefully orchestrated by distinct signals from SPMs. In a recent clinical trial, adults with obesity took an SPM supplement to determine if it would increase circulating levels of SPMs.
Powerful Immune Influencers: Omega-3 Fats and Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators (SPMs)
Many of us have been using omega-3 fats, such as fish oil, for managing inflammatory conditions. Interestingly, fish oil and special molecules made from them called specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) have big impacts on our immune system and play an important role in the activity of immune cells. In this blog post, Michael Stanclift, ND shares how the key lies in how fats such as the ones found in fish oil influence the behavior of the white blood cells (WBCs) of our immune system.
Pain & Inflammation Resolution Through Nutritional Bioactives: A Deep Dive
Presented by Erik Lundquist, MD
Available on demand
Inflammation is a natural process essential for survival. Unresolved inflammation, however, disrupts return to homeostasis and increases our vulnerability for many diseases and various types of pain. In this webinar, Erik Lundquist, MD will help you understand how to effectively manage inflammation and pain while enhancing the body’s resolving capacity through nutrition.
